DJ mix: Flavorheard presents the Whiskey Barons

Amphibious and The Bogart  are the Whiskey Barons—more popularly known 'round these parts as Flavorheard. Their outpouring of remixes and originals is the result of funneling Latin, African, funk, soul, disco and rock through the lofty demands of the modem dance floor.

Amphibious explains the inspiration for their mix created for TOB:

“We wanted this mix to give a sense of how we approach a night. First and foremost everything is funky and danceable, you may not have heard a lot if it (or any of it) before—but it's all got an undeniable groove so that shouldn't matter. That being said, sometimes you have to lead people with some more familiar tracks until you gain their trust enough to get into the deeper stuff. 

We think its important to let the tempo of the night rise gradually, so we like to set a vibe with some slower tunes and work everyone up together to the all-out dance tempos. We also like to give some relief from the super fast tunes and let people catch their breath. This mix has that same arc as our club nights.

To put this mix together we picked a handful of tracks we've been working on and a few we've just really been feeling lately. We then used those as waypoints, and tried to build around them and connect everything in a way that feels like a natural progression and sort of leads the listener along. It might not seem like it would make sense to go all the way from Adele to Fela. But with the right path, it works without being forced—at least we hope so!”
