Stylish Bostonians: Carmen O'Connor

Name: Carmen O’Connor

Age: 29

Occupation: Musician, Member of Bodega Girls (ilovebodegagirls.com) and Pet Police, Waitress at Middlesex Lounge

Lives in: Natick, MA

Her inspirations: “My mom. She is definitely one of the people I look up to; she had great style and loved boutiques in the late 70s, early 80s. She had a lot of really cute cashmere tops, a lot of blouses, high waisted pants. She was one of the pioneers and she brought me along with her.”

Favorite stores: Savers (Framingham), Charitable Heart (Natick), Forever 21, H&M, BCBG Max Azria, G-Star RAW

Her favorite accessories: "Carmen" gold name necklace made by a friend, three-finger rings

Favorite designers: Alexander McQueen

“His collections were a range of eccentric pieces from the get-go up until he passed away; he was phenomenal. He knew how to work with very angled, boxy cuts that frame the figure well.”

How she describes Boston style: “I feel like Boston needs a push with fashion; it needs a revamp. It’s all about detail and people often forget that in Boston. There’s tons of potential. I’m excited to see where it goes. I feel like there’s going to be a lot of feathers, minks, stuff like that back in the wardrobes.”

How her style has evolved through the years: “Once upon a time I had red hair and wore a lot of skinny jeans, cut-off band t-shirts, belly shirts, pins on my jacket. Those are the days I’d like to forget. I feel that as I’m getting older – like a fine wine – I’m just getting better. I’m starting to get a little more eccentric with my own style.”

Time Out Boston and Bodega Girls present at Middlesex Lounge on Wednesday, January 26.
