Stylish Bostonians: Justincredible

Name: Justin Cameron

Age: 25

Occupation: DJ, producer (soundcloud.com/blak-adonis; myspace.com/wearekstrls)

From: Dorchester, MA

Lives in: Roxbury, MA

His inspirations:
“Shaquana goes to the graveyard. Because I’ve grown up in the inner city, I take a lot inspiration from what I see—what the girls are wearing in the hood. I combine that with a hood swag element—the black and gold, black and pink—to make almost gothic hood-rat look.”

Favorite stores: Rescue, H&M, friend Toby van Orstel’s closet, Roxbury’s Goodwill

“Nowadays, I go places where I can be efficient, and the pieces are decently priced. I like to know I can find stuff I like without spending more than an hour there.”

His favorite accessories: A cat-shaped pinky ring from 40 South Street

Favorite designers: Better Off Dead, Rogues Gallery, Hood by Air, Topman, ShoeLab, Obey

“A lot of my look is oversized ‘80s mafia wife sweaters, like Michelle Pheifer in Married to the Mob. I try to collect singular pieces.”

How he describes Boston style:
“We’re spoiled with the amount of style and looks that are around in Boston. It’s not about being in style; it’s about giving a good look and creating something from what’s around you. Boston’s not a trend-hunting place; It’s almost too easy to say people here don’t have style, because it’s not even a destination for that. It’s like going up to a bunch of football players and telling them they can’t play basketball.”

How his style has evolved through the years:
“My style has evolved but it’s also digressed. In high school, I dressed with bondage pants, black fishnets, storm trooper boots and painted purple stripes from my forehead going down my face. I dressed like the long-lost black member of Orgy, like such a freak all the goddamn time. When you’re younger, your looks—especially alternative looks—are always about being in peoples’ faces and making a splash and being noticed. Now it’s about looking the way that I am. Even when I’m slumming it, my look reflects the person I am. It’s a fine, streamlined look.”
