Martin Luther King Day of Service Celebration

To honor of the civil rights activist (and you, for the volunteering you'll hopefully be engaging in on this Day of Service), the Mayor's Office is mounting this free concert at Faneuil Hall. In addition to performances from members of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras, there will also be a spoken word address by activist poet Nikki Giovanni and readings of Dr. King's speeches by local notables. 1pm. Free. Faneuil Hall (cityofboston.gov/arts)

Many Helping Hands: Cambridge MLK Day of Service
You probably have the day off this Monday, but that doesn't mean you should spend it slacking off. This isn't some random bank holiday thing, after all; this one's for Dr. King, and he's got a hefty legacy to uphold. Do your part at the Cambridge YWCA, where you can participate in a variety of volunteer activities: make scarves to benefit at-risk infants, put together Valentines for Cambridge seniors and much more. Bring along winter clothing, children's books and canned goods to donate. 2pm–5pm. Free. Cambridge YWCA (servicenation.org)
